'I'm living in Seoul' 이렇게 말하면 틀린 이유?!

현재진행형으로 말하면 의미가 조금 애매해질 수 있다.

살고 있다는 의미보다는 잠시 여기서 지낼 뿐이다. 잠시 머물고 있다는 의미가 강하다.

 

I live in Seoul.

이렇게 현재형으로 말하면 영구적인 거주를 말한다. 

 

I'm living in Seoul.

현재는 서울에 살고 있지만 과거에나 미래에는 다른 곳에 살 것이다. 

I'm currently living in Seoul.

I'm living in Seoul right now.

I'm living in Seoul for time being.

 

 

‘먹는거 좋아해’ 설마 I like eating 이라고 하세요?

‘무슨 문제 있어요? 이렇게 말하면 큰일난다?!

고민이 있어보이는 사람에게 What's your problem이라고 말하면,

'뭐, 임마?', '뭐가 문제야?' 같은 뉘앙스로 따지거나 한심해하는 느낌의 표현이다.

 

이럴 때는 아래와 같은 표현들이 좋다.

Kids(키즈)는 어린이라는 뜻이 아니다?!

kid는 청소년, 젊은이라는 의미도 가지고 있다.

'여기가 어디죠?' Where is here라고 하면 틀린 이유

한국어에서 여기, 저기는 지시대명사로 주어나 목적어로 쓰일 수 있다.

반면에 영어에서 here, there은 부사이기 때문에 주어나 목적어로 사용될 수 없기 때문에 위와 같은 표현이 잘못된 것이다.

Where is here?                → Where am I / Where are we?

I like here                       → I like it here.

I like there                      → I like it there.
